Old School Wins Section -- State Tournament

Section 6AA Champions Posted by Hello

Well, what do you know?! The Old School has finally made the state tournament -- it's been since '89 (I think), but it looks like the ol' ball coach has finally taken the team back to glory.

With that in mind, I just might be heading back to the great state of Minnesota to watch this one. They are going to be playing Eden Valley-Watkins, the Section 5AA Champion in Granite Falls on Friday night.

EVW's final ranking was 3rd in state Class AA. They have mowed over their opponents in the Section 5AA playoffs, scoring 137 points in 3 games while only giving up 16. One of their victories was a huge 49-2 win over Atwater-Grove City-Cosmos, a team that had previously defeated the Old School in 212 Conference action.

I'm not taking anything away from the Old School, they had an impressive playoff run also, with a huge first-round win over Ortonville 54-20, moving on to beat Benson 20-13 and defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 34-6 in the Section championship.

My prediction? This is new territory for the Sting. They'll most likely be a bit "bug-eyed" going into this one on Friday night, facing the 3rd ranked team in the state. Momentum is on both sides of the ball, both teams coming off impressive playoff runs. Even though the Sting will have home-field advantage, they'll fall to EVW -- 35 to 12.

Hopefully they can prove me wrong.
