Seriously -- April?

Good-bye, April. I knew you well.

Seriously -- what the hell was that all about? Cold-ass weather, snow, sleet -- the whole package. I thought the first day of spring was WAY back in March. Guess not!

For the first time in memory, I actually had a day off due to bad weather in the month of April. Even last Friday (prior to our varsity baseball trip to Minneapolis), we even got out of school early due to snow and ice. It was absolutely crazy.

I guess I can even blame this shitty weather on my 7th grade baseball team's horrible 0-and-5 start. We've been stuck indoors for so long, fighting the other teams and other sports for gym space. I even had to push back the start of practices until 5:00 p.m. just so other teams could clear out.

We have been practicing since the early part of March, and now it's finally setting in: the disappointment of a losing season. I would make a poor professional scout, since I had so much thought into a prospective winning season with this group of student/athletes. They had all listened so well early on, looked good during practices, then when the games come around -- everything falls apart. I'll have to post some statistics later on. They're just bad.

Out of the 18 players, I'll bet about 4 of them are "players." The others think their "shit doesn't stink" and talk about how great they are, but I know better. At least my personal coaching philosophy is that everyone will get equal playing time. Sure, I have the bad attitude right now -- but wouldn't you if you've put in extra hours in a sport that I absolutely adore and have 7th graders not play to their full potential? Yikes. Just a few weeks longer.

Big news for the week: "Grand Theft Auto: IV" just came out on the PS3 and XBox 360 systems on Tuesday. Since I got my tax rebate check this week ... I'm thinking a trip to wherever to pick that bad boy up.

Can't wait to live in Liberty City once again!
